Our Story
The Farm
Coop Hill Farm got it’s start back in 2014 when we moved to Quinte West from Toronto. We had a small dream to have a little land in the country, put down some roots and grow fresh food we love. We settled ourselves on the old McCormack orchard on Telephone Road and began to build. First, we cleared a tiny home garden and then built a little chicken coop on the hilltop. Eleven years later we still have a happy little flock on the hill and a one-acre market garden, and we are still putting down roots!
We began the CSA program in 2023, and we were hooked on this way of farming. We feel privileged to meet all our customers and their families every week. We never get tired of hearing how kids are snacking on our fresh carrots or how the taste of our heritage fruits and veggies bring back old forgotten memories. Part of the reason why we farm so many different crops is to keep this connection to our food. We strive to provide the best quality of naturally grown produce to our local community. For the health, taste, and fun of it all!
The Farmer
Farmer Dan comes from a rich farming heritage that he is so proud to continue. His mother’s side of the family were dairy farmers not too far away in Perth. His great aunt had a marvelous kitchen garden that he swears still dwarfs his. He still remembers eating green beans of the vine and squishing potato bugs with his cousins in that garden. His grandfather on his father’s side was a poultry and pork man from Trois Rivier. He learned a lot from him and is an accomplished poultry man himself.
